Essentially we believe these albums are albums that can be listened to from start to finish but don’t just take our word for it. Tune in on Saturday to hear the music.

On this week’s show we will promote the music of the following four acts: Find The Others; Twin Library; Little Scream; and Grey Kingdom. We’ll start the first half hour of the show with GK, then Find The Others, Little Scream and round out the show with Twin Library.

Being an election junkie I could both appreciate the important events taking place in the Vancouver civic political party and well just the pure sport of the results as they came in.

It was a day of numbers numbers – 69 new members were signed up on the day of the meeting. In all 285 new members were signed up as the meeting advanced. The second figure was given out during the AGM.
No information was provided as to if that was 285 new members since the last AGM or 285 members since the last big meeting in the summer when it was decided who the COPE civic election candidates would be.

There were a few motions from the floor – the most important being that an overview of the 2011 civic election campaign would be bumped up the agenda from item 9 to item 6. That motion passed but after the six hour AGM no overview was heard once the election results of the Members at Large to the COPE executive had been announced. I don’t even remember there being a motion to adjourn the meeting.

The other important motion was that more general meetings would be held within the calendar year.

A lot was made of the 69 new members. Questions as to whether they were legitimate COPE members or not. The sentiment from the outgoing executive is that they were legitimate members.

That did not stop individuals from trying to pass motions which would delay the meeting by sixty days. And that was in just the first hour. That motion failed. The meeting was called to order at about 2.20pm with the agenda being approved at 3.25pm.

The elections were really the main point of the meeting and so in between elections there were opportunities for announcements, thank you’s and a few business items – including a look at the finances.

So here’s the results as I recorded them. The figures do not include spoiled ballots. I did not keep a tally of those.

I will detail the post that was being contested, the winner and the number of votes they received, the loser(s) and their votes. Also the total number of votes.

For external chair RJ Aquino was elected with 145 votes. Tim Louis, 141 votes. Total votes 286.

For internal chair Sarena Talbot was elected with 144 votes. Connie Hobbs 122. Total votes 266, and a 20 vote drop from the external chair election.
The Aquino/Talbot vote remained steady. Perhaps twenty odd Tim Louis voters left following his failure to get elected as external chair.

For Recording Secretary Donalda Greenwell-Baker was elected with 133 votes. Gretchen Dulmage 105. Total votes 238 representing another 28 vote decline since the internal chair vote. Had Dulmage got the same number of votes as Louis she would now be the Recording Secretary. It’s too easy to suggest that there was a simple split in the room between those pushing for an executive that would promote a COPE independent from Vision Vancouver at the next civic election and those wanting an executive that would work with VV.

Proof of that came in the next executive election where there was a three vote climb in the total number of votes for the post and also a climb in votes for a candidate on the Independent slate. Kim Hearty’s passionate speech gave her the edge over Brent Granby. Hearty was elected as Corresponding Secretary with 122 votes. Granby 119. Total votes 241.

Paul Houle, also on the independent slate was two votes shy of being elected as Treasurer. Aaron Eddie got 111 votes, Houle 110. Total votes 221. A twenty vote drop but not the lowest vote total of the day.

For Fundraiser, David Chudnovsky was elected with 123 votes. Raymond Tomlin 96 votes. Total votes 219 and a two vote drop since the last election. Again the Independent slate candidate appear to have lost votes. Compare Houle’s 110 to Tomlin’s 96.

For Membership Secretary, Kate Van Meer-Mass was elected with 109 votes. Sean Antrim 97 votes. Interestingly the independent slate vote increased by one holding steady, but still not enough to get a second executive member – not including the Members at Large. Total votes for the MS post – 206. the lowest election vote in all.

For the Five Members At Large vacancies two were to be elected for two years, and the other three for a one year term each. The two candidates with the most votes got the two year roles. Ifny Lachance got 171 votes and Anita Romaniuk 157 votes secured these posts.

The other three one year Member at Large posts went to Richard Marquez 125 votes, Wilson Munoz 121 votes and Tristan Markle 110 votes.

The unsuccessful candidates being Jane Bouey 109 votes, Brent Granby 104 votes and Tim Louis 100 votes.

The 6.57 is a Canadian music show, on every Saturday morning 7 to 9am.

The idea of this new show series is to showcase new classic album’s – album’s that we think are the complete album, a new classic.

The four contenders in this week’s show being music by Mark Davis; Duchess Says; Kellarissa; and The F & M Band.

The 6.57 to St John’s is a Canadian music show on Vancouver Cooperative Radio.

You can hear the show at the Coop Radio archives or by listening to the posts on this blog. You can of course always tune in – 102.7fm Saturdays from 6.57!!! yeah 7 to 9am.

On Saturday 18 February we plan to do the complete album show – we will be looking at four Canadian artists/groups that have released music in 2011 or 2012. The show will demonstrate why these albums are the complete album. By complete we mean that you can listen to the album in its entirety and enjoy the experience without feeling that you need to do something else, like mow the lawn or do the dishes, although washing the dishes is something that gets done in my household when great music is playing!!!

Sometime after that we plan to do another show focusing on the music of The City Streets.

I monitored the Democracy Now stream from 6-7am, and during this time wrote a news piece for W2 Morning Radio Project, which I read weekday mornings at 7am.

I did this for 72 of the first 75 shows until I was fired off the show January 27th. I was told on that date I made too much use of police information.

I always tried to do a news read which I thought represented the news as I saw it – that morning.
My news reads were based on the training I received at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and its radio station Evolution1079.
The reading of the news was not an easy task for the show given the limited organization and the reluctance of the show producers to hold meetings to discuss technical issues.

That said I am happy that some of my news reads and other interviews conducted during my involvement with the show made for great radio.

Here is a news read that I did for the show on 18 January, and interestingly this might have been the news read that got me fired.

And yes, I was a volunteer, and yes I’m still involved with Coop Radio – the dismissal relates only to the W2 Morning Radio Project.
